For the Mount Olympus course in Walkabout Mini Golf, we aimed to redesign the waterfalls to create a grander presence, conveying the scale of the course. I was tasked with making that a reality, and I approached it by blending our existing geo-based flowing-water techniques with smoke particles that were dialed to create the large misty falls seen here.
The Poseidon hole posed an interesting challenge, with the water flowing around the entire hole and also down the steps. The UVs had to manipulate right to get the flow over the sides while looking right, flowing towards the player. Alpha was added to the water flowing down the steps to add flavor, while keeping it all a single piece of geo, except for the waterfall tops.
